Facets combine — pick within a group for "either," across groups for "and." Built from every expression that actually carries a discourse field.
Knowledge · Patterns
Structural patterns
Fixed-shape structures — a template you slot words into, not a single fixed phrase.
Knowledge · Expressions
Expressions
Fixed lexical combinations — what they mean, how they're built, and what they're commonly confused with. Use the search bar above for a word or an English gloss, or browse by category below.

Reference
System- and topic-level grammar — negation, articles, pronoun order, moods, and the rest that doesn't live on a single tense card.

Decision Training · Dependency
Dependency — decide, then see the consequence
One choice, two consequences: your earlier meaning choice forces what's grammatically correct later. Choose both times — this tests the decision, not spelling.
Decision Training · Pattern / Discourse
Pattern & Discourse — retrieve, then reuse
A browsable practice library — realistic French situations first, translation available on request. Some situations call for a whole structure (discourse pattern); within it, only some moves call for a fixed French expression (expression pattern) — the rest is your own content. Type before you see the reference; you self-assess against it.
FKE · About & roadmap
Turning French knowledge into decisions you don't have to think twice about.
FKE is a decision-training tool built for adults preparing for a French exam. Grammar explanations are everywhere — the gap isn't information, it's knowing which correct answer actually fits what you mean.

The decision-training core
Everything in this app — open now for anyone preparing for a French exam to try, break, and report on.
Short daily practice, spaced repetition on the decisions you've seen before, and a map of what you've actually mastered — so returning each day compounds instead of restarting.
Later
A guided path to exam day
A self-paced schedule laid over the same free tools, sequencing them toward your exam date. One-time, not a subscription — never a new course, never a substitute for the free core.
FKE is built and reviewed by one person, in public. Last updated: 24 Aug 2026.
FKE-light v1.5 — scope, so nothing looks silently missing: real data (108 verbs, 137 expressions incl. 21 structural patterns, 12 comparisons, 28 sentences, 17 concept cards: 6 tense + 11 system/topic — a copy of explorer/data/data.js sitting in this folder's own data/ subfolder). Covers Verb Explorer (Recall/Reference/Practice — Reference color-codes stem/ending/aux/participle, gérondif + memory-tip callouts), Sentence Explorer (real cloze with a visible Check button, filterable by level and by tense/trigger, plus listen/shadow), Connectors (now clickable — full detail incl. examples/mistakes/related), Patterns (21 structural templates), Reference (the 11 system/topic concepts plus the ~60 grammatical-trigger expressions, reachable from concept pages, tense-card "Triggers", and Search), Compare (all 12 comparisons, DECIDE drill), Weak Spots, Search, and Needs Review. Decision Training (promoted from throwaway explorer/ mechanism experiments, Puii-tested 2026-08-14):Dependency (10 exercises — an earlier meaning choice forces a later grammatical mood; every step is CHOOSE, derived live from canonical verb/expression data, never hardcoded) and Pattern / Discourse (11 exercises, reworked v1.5 for breadth then redesigned 2026-08-16 for a French-first, browsable-library presentation — 5 discourse-arc retrieval items across 4 distinct communicative families (complaint, invitation, narrating an experience, opinion/argument x2 — the second a DELF-style reply-to-a-friend instance), 4 expression retrieval/reuse items across 4 more families (complaint closing, self-introduction, polite request, and that closing reused in a different purpose/recipient/register), 2 choice-based decision items (formal-vs-casual; which pattern fits, including accepting/declining). The test surface leads with a realistic French situation (not an English prompt); an English gloss is available behind a collapsed "Voir la traduction" toggle, and register/word-count constraints show as their own line, both never shown by default. The index is a browsable, filterable library ([All] [Discourse] [Expression] [Choose], mapped from the existing item type — no new schema) plus a "Practice a random task" action scoped to the current filter. Two nested, deliberately un-collapsed levels throughout: discourse pattern = retrieve the whole arc, typed and self-assessed against a reference shown side by side; expression pattern = retrieve/reuse a genuinely conventional French formula within one move — never fabricated on moves that are really free content (Problem/Cause/Reasons/Narration stay untested, on purpose). Open French answers are graded by self-assessment (three honest states — retrieved / valid variant / missed), not exact-string matching; normalize() may only surface a non-authoritative hint. This content is still exploratory (10+11, to discover what repeats) and lives as local data inside this file's own script, not a new schema. Intentionally not built: Tense Map, standalone Drills screen, a generalized Dependency/Pattern authoring engine, Weak Spots integration for Decision Training (deliberately deferred), full coverage of every communicative family listed in the brief (Greeting and Suggestion/advice are untouched by design — breadth over forced completeness). Note: the data copy won't follow future edits to the real FKE automatically. Nothing in explorer/ was touched. (Moved to the bottom of the page 2026-08-14, Puii-directed — it was pushing real content down on every load.)
