How to use FKE: a step-by-step guide
Learn how to search the library, practise verbs, review weak spots, use Compare and keep a backup of your learning.
🧭 Getting started
Start free — no sign-in needed
Visitors can use FKE’s core tools and free lesson preview without registering or signing in. Guest progress stays in this browser. Sign in to keep an account copy and continue across devices. Paid Study Companion adds the full guided path, unlimited checked practice, and the complete member reading and situation collection.
You’ve got it when: You can choose to start free, sign in for sync, or compare Study Companion.
Use FKE in Thai
Choose “ไทย” at the top right. Menus, guidance, hints, answer feedback and this guide switch to Thai, while French questions, examples and answers stay in French.
You’ve got it when: The Thai button is selected and guidance around the French exercise appears in Thai.
FKE has four sections
The top bar has PRACTICE (do it), LEARN (read and understand), DECIDE (choose the answer that fits your meaning) and FKE (about, how-to and feedback). Tap a section to see its pages underneath.
You’ve got it when: The row of pages changes with the section you pick.
Search anything
Type in the search box at the top — a verb, expression, word or comparison. Results are grouped; tap one to jump straight there.
You’ve got it when: Tapping a result opens that item.
Tip: Use the coloured back bar at the top to return to where you were.
Replay the short tour
The ? icon next to the theme switch replays the floating walkthrough any time. Back rereads a step; Try an example opens and highlights the real feature.
You’ve got it when: The tour opens and highlights real controls.
Add FKE to your home screen
iPhone: open in Safari → Share → Add to Home Screen. Android: open in Chrome → ⋮ → Install app or Add to Home screen.
You’ve got it when: An FKE icon is on your home screen.
Tip: If you opened FKE inside LINE or Facebook, choose “Open in browser” first.
🔤 Verb Explorer
Pick a verb
Type in “type a verb…”. An exact match is selected automatically.
You’ve got it when: The verb you want is shown as the heading.
Reference or Recall
Reference shows the full conjugation table. Recall asks you to type the forms first. Choose “Whole paradigm” for the full table or “One tense, step by step” for one tense at a time.
You’ve got it when: In Recall you see empty boxes to type into.
Check your answers
Tap “Check paradigm”. Wrong boxes are marked and saved to Weak Spots for review. “Reset” starts again.
You’ve got it when: Each box shows right or wrong after checking.
Tip: No capital letters needed, and either apostrophe works.
See how a tense is built
Tap a tense name in the column header, or “About … tense” beneath the tense selector in step-by-step mode. The card explains formation and usage; its Save button is beneath the heading.
You’ve got it when: The tense card opens.
⌨️ Typing French accents
Open the accent keys
Tap an answer box, then the small keyboard icon beside it. Keys for é è ê à ç … appear; tap one to insert it at the cursor.
You’ve got it when: The accented letter appears in your answer.
Or use your phone keyboard
On a phone you can also press and hold a letter such as e to pick é è ê.
You’ve got it when: Either way gives you the accent.
Tip: Tap the keyboard icon again to hide the keys.
🎯 Weak Spots & Grammar Practice
Review what you missed
Weak Spots collects what you got wrong, so you review just those instead of starting over.
You’ve got it when: You see the items you missed.
Mixed grammar practice
Grammar Practice mixes topics, and has a mode where you choose the meaning first, then the grammar (mood) that fits it.
You’ve got it when: After answering you see why it was right or wrong.
📈 My Progress & Quick Test
See your progress
My Progress summarises the answers you’ve checked on this device — which topics are solid and which need work.
You’ve got it when: You see a summary by topic.
Take a 10-question Quick Test
Start Quick Test for a short, exam-style set of 10 questions, then see your score and misses.
You’ve got it when: After 10 questions you see your score.
Tip: This data lives in this browser — see “Backup & devices”.
⭐ Today & saved
Practise in Today’s session
Open My Learning → Today’s session and choose a session length. Verb review questions can use je, tu, il, elle, on, nous, vous, ils and elles across sessions; a short session does not contain every subject. Question limits and access stay the same.
You’ve got it when: Finish a short session, then return for the next practice or review.
Save a page for later
Tap “☆ Save this page” in the toolbar. Saved pages are listed in Today & saved.
You’ve got it when: The star fills in and the page appears in your saved list.
Mark your understanding
On a reference card, choose “I got this” when you understand it, or “Still unsure” to revisit it. A solid dot means understood, a half-filled dot means revisit, and no dot means unmarked. Select the active button again to clear it. Opening a card alone never changes the mark.
You’ve got it when: Reaching the bottom of an open reference counts one reading activity per reference per day. Short cards count when their bottom is visible. Reflection is optional and separate; repeated scrolling or clicks add nothing. Practice is recorded when you answer. Accuracy stays separate.
Use the optional study timer
Start the Optional study timer in My Learning. On other pages it appears at the top right. The music-note icon toggles sound; the eye icon collapses or reopens it. Time keeps running while collapsed.
You’ve got it when: A completion notice appears on the page you are viewing.
Learning days
Complete at least 3 learning activities in a day: checked answers, situation self-checks or qualified reading reflections. Reading and reflection are one activity together. These show participation, not mastery. Missing a day isn’t punished.
You’ve got it when: Today is marked on the calendar.
🌱 Learn with Study Companion
Learn, practise and check your answers
Open My Learning to choose or resume a lesson. Read the explanation, practise, then build sentences or fill paragraph gaps. Check your answers, open a hint or reveal an answer when needed, and retry.
You’ve got it when: After checking your answers and reading the recap, finish the session to mark it complete.
Revisit what was tricky
Retry a question after checking it. Your first result stays in history, and tricky material is scheduled for a later session. My Learning shows what to practise next.
You’ve got it when: An incorrect answer shows an explanation and retry button while preserving your first result.
📚 LEARN & DECIDE
The knowledge library
LEARN has Connectors, Patterns (sentence structures), Expressions, Reference (grammar overviews) and Compare (things people often mix up).
You’ve got it when: You can open any topic.
Practise the decision
DECIDE → Pattern & Discourse trains you to choose the expression or structure that fits the situation and meaning. Some topics are free; the rest are part of Study Companion.
You’ve got it when: Finish one situation.
💾 Backup & devices
Device and account copies
Learning progress saves on this device. Signed-in members also sync an account copy. Check My FKE for status; if two devices have different progress, choose which copy to keep.
You’ve got it when: Check sync status before switching devices or clearing browser data.
Export and restore
Go to Today & saved → Help & backup and tap “Export backup”. On the new device, tap “Restore backup” and pick that file. Restoring replaces the record on that device.
You’ve got it when: You have a backup file and can restore it elsewhere.
Tip: Back up before switching devices or clearing your browser.
💬 Feedback & support
Tell Puii anything
Tap the round button at the bottom right, or FKE → Feedback. The bubble hides near the footer so it does not cover links. Choose Problem / Idea / Question, type a line and send. FKE adds the page, build and device for you.
You’ve got it when: You see “Got it” with a reference code.
Attach a screenshot or recording
Screenshot: iPhone side button + volume up · Android power + volume down. Screen recording: iPhone Control Centre → Screen Recording · Android Quick Settings → Screen record · Mac Shift-Cmd-5. Then attach it in the feedback box.
You’ve got it when: Your file shows as a thumbnail in the feedback box.
Tip: No Screen Recording button on iPhone? Add it in Settings → Control Centre.
See what’s been fixed
In the feedback box, open “Recently fixed” to see what people reported and what’s now fixed.
You’ve got it when: You see fixed items with dates.
Membership and support are different
Annual Study Companion membership includes guided lessons, checked exercises, additional scenarios and no daily answer limit. A contribution through “Support FKE” helps maintain the free tools but does not unlock membership.
You’ve got it when: Open “Explore Study Companion” to join, or “Support FKE” to make a contribution.
Support FKE
FKE’s core tools stay free. If they help you, you can chip in at FKE → 💛 Support FKE via PromptPay (no fee) or card.
You’ve got it when: The support section opens.
Open the interactive guide in FKE
The in-app version takes you to the real tools and lets you try each step.
